Building a Community
With Rubik's Cubes

OUR MISSION
We foster cognitive engagement and community among seniors, children, and hospital patients through workshops that support brain health and social connection.

Workshops
Cubes for a Cure is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (Tax ID: 39-3934988) that conducts workshops using the Rubik’s Cube as a tool for cognitive engagement, fine motor skill development, and social connection across three key initiatives: hospitals, senior communities, and educational programs such as after-school clubs and summer camps. Research consistently shows that structured, mentally stimulating activities like puzzles and problem-solving games help sustain brain plasticity and delay cognitive decline in aging adults (Park & Reuter-Lorenz, 2009). Likewise, engaging hospitalized individuals in purposeful leisure activities has been linked to improved focus, mood, and motivation during recovery (Bennett et al., 2014).

Each workshop emphasizes pattern recognition, memory, and logical reasoning, cognitive domains that support executive function and resilience against age-related decline (Valenzuela & Sachdev, 2006). In hospitals, the tactile nature of the Rubik’s Cube provides occupational therapy–like benefits, strengthening hand–eye coordination and fine motor control for patients in rehabilitation (Trombly, 1995). Within senior communities, sessions promote cognitive vitality and social interaction, both of which have been shown to reduce the risk of loneliness and depression (Holt-Lunstad et al., 2010).
